It is with sadness that we have to inform you of the passing of Bruce Mitchell, Gloucester Cathedral chorister from 1942 to 1949, and subsequently a teacher at The King’s School from 1959 to 1967.
Bruce’s funeral will take place in the Cathedral on Tuesday 21st November at 1pm. All who knew him are welcome.
Former Gloucester Cathedral Chorister Edward Gardner has been nominated for this year’s Gramophone Artist of the Year Award. His recent work as chief Conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and principal Guest Conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra have led to several critically acclaimed recordings in Chandos’ ongoing orchestral series of Mendelssohn, Walton and Janáček.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the Cathedral Carol Service on December 23rd; a day which holds special meaning to those of us privileged to have know Dr John Sanders. On the 10th anniversary of his passing, the Cathedral will play host to the premier of a specially commissioned work by David Bednall.
The 2013 Annual General Meeting was held on Saturday 21st September 2013 at 7 College Green. It resulted in significant changes on Committee with different faces being voted in to all of the appointed officer”s positions. All of last years Committee stood for re-election, and we are very grateful to have two new members on Committee this year.

There will undoubtedly be many tales about Tim that can be recalled because he was such an interesting and outgoing character! Although we were both choristers and our paths crossed, as it were, in the cathedral, it was only after leaving school that we became good friends and for many years worked together on musical projects….
The next GCOCA planned social event is a Real Ale & Curry evening starting at 7pm at The Pelican on the 23rd of December after the Cathedral Carol Service, then moving on to Shahi Balti for 8pm.
The GCOCA Reunion is held on the third Saturday in September every year. In 2014 it falls on Saturday 20th September, and in 2015 it falls on the 19th. The next GCOCA Reunion Concert will be on Friday 18th September 2015.
